In developing mobile apps, the ability to provide geofencing is becoming pretty common. Android and iOS natively support the ability to trigger a notification when the phone itself enters a particular geographic area, but that doesn't help if what you want to do is be notified when other people (or entities such as buses/trains) are nearby.
